MISSION

Our goals remain as clear and strong as they were when CALI was formed in 1967:

To advance the professions of licensed investigators and security professionals;

To provide education and training to all licensed professionals; and

To articulate and advocate the needs and interests of the professions before legislative, administrative, and judicial branches of government.

Through quarterly conferences and seminars, publications, community programs, and advocacy on behalf of our profession, we honor our commitment to our colleagues and clients.

From the President

At a time of much consternation within CALI's leadership, I am honored that our Board of Directors has selected me to serve as President until elections are held in May.  Many questions exist regarding the method that changes have been made.  These changes have resulted from the examination of CALI's activities by CALI's corporate counsel and an independent third party.  The Board of Directors entrusted these outside evaluators to guide the Association in the handling of some very sensitive matters.

I am reminded of the division that exists throughout our country.  We the members of CALI and our private investigation/PPO industry are extremely diverse.  We offer services in many different areas; the criminal and civil courts, to corporations, to individuals, to insurance companies, to the public sector and much more.  We are diverse in background, culture, training, political beliefs and what we offer.

But we are one...the Private Investigator-Security industry, seeking the facts, securing the community and assisting our respective client(s) in making the right decision to solve the issues confronting them.

I am hopeful that we can work together to make our industry better, and more secure for the financial benefit of the private investigator and private patrol operator.  While we may not always agree, let's agree to be respectful of our fellow members and our fellow licensed PIs & PPOs.  Together, let's strive to fulfill CALI's Mission:

  • To advance the professions of licensed investigators and security professionals;
  • To provide education and training to all licensed professionals; and
  • To articulate and advocate the needs and interests of the professions before legislative, administrative, and judicial branches of government.

I look forward to the challenge of serving our membership.  CALI is actively preparing our Legislative Day in Sacramento and the Annual Conference in Reno.  Outstanding programs are planned at both.  I encourage your attendance at both as well as attending your local District meeting(s).  Share your thoughts regarding CALI and the industry with you District Director.  They are your voice to the Board of Directors.

Hope to see you soon!
Robert Rice, President
CALI

ELITE: CDITC Criminal Defense Investigation Academy

The California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) and the Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council (CDITC) joined forces to deliver what promised to be the most exciting training event of the year!  The 40-hour Criminal Defense Investigation Academy was held on January 23 - 27, 2017, at the Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California.

The evaluations have been tabulated and show phenomenal results.

One hundred percent of the respondents evaluated the program met expectations and that the content was relevant for a seasoned private investigator.

The respondents felt the faculty, length of the training, the location, and overall quality of the event were great. They overwhelmingly believed CALI should hold another Academy.

"This training was awesome and well worth the money. The best part was the all inclusive training and environment. We took everything we
learned in the classroom and immediately applied it as a team
conducting a mock investigation."

"The entire Academy was presented in an outstanding and professional standard."

"Yes! CALI is a vibrant organization that fosters a culture of improvement where one is greatly needed. The more we as PI's improve our services and enhance the quality of the PI's the more viable it will be."

"In my 28 years in law enforcement, 25 years in the military, 13 years as a PI; I have had a lot of great training opportunities. This has to be near the top if not the top in the content, quality, and location. Not only was there a classroom, but also there was practical experience and teamwork. It was the best."

Thank you to the Faculty
Brandon Perron, CW Sellers, Francie Koehler, Bill  Monroe, Brad Parron, and Advisor Anne Fields

Thank you to the Mock Investigation Team
Alyssa Perron, Richard Rood, Denise Maldonado, CW Sellers, Ted Day, John Blackburn, Esther Flores, and Joseph Kral

Shout out to Sandra Copas for her help on-site. And Stacey Scheirer, CALI Staff, who CW says, "can pull a rabbit out of a hat."

Shout out to attendee Scott who won the $100 gift card drawing by submitting the ELITE evaluation by deadline!

And, all of the participants!

San Francisco District

The San Francisco District will join with the North and East Bay Districts to have a joint meeting on February 26. The idea began months ago and has grown to a point that we will be flying Oleg Flaksman from Southern California to speak during a four hour Background Investigation training at an Oakland library on Saturday afternoon.

Considering that I have never personally hosted a meeting of this size, I am excited to say the least. The last I heard we have already sold 25 tickets online for an event that could hold up to 75 people. I am eager to see who all shows up especially considering that we have invited people outside CALI.

Though I can't speak for Oleg's exact travel plans, I know he will be continuing his sweep of Northern California with a surveillance training in Modesto the following day. Good luck trailing him out there. For more information see the CALI website (www.cali-pi.org).

As for me, I'll be calling a lot of people this weekend to personally notify them of the training opportunities and urge them to come to Leg Day in Sacramento this coming March.

CALI San Francisco District Governor & Director

One of CALI's paramount goals is to serve as a legislative force for our industry. We complete this through a number of avenues, but one of our most significant is our annual Legislative Day - Campaign for CALI!!

WHAT IS LEGISLATIVE DAY?

On Legislative Day we gather in Sacramento and meet with our state representatives and/or their staff to present CALI's position on pending and/or future pertinent legislative issues. This day also helps to build and foster our relationships as constituents, and help our cause for future issues and concerns.

We hold a briefing session prior to the meetings and then a post discussion to summarize our experience. If you have never participated-don't worry! We provide you with the necessary tools and a seasoned member to accompany and guide you.

If you are still unsure, we urge you to talk with a fellow CALI member who has participated in this significant day. We guarantee they will have nothing but positive feedback to provide for you.

Please remember that Legislative Day is FREE to CALI members. We can keep it this way through the generosity of our sponsors. Sponsorship opportunities are available at all levels. (Registration for non-members is only $50.00). Don't delay!! Register now and make a difference!  Please click here.

For further information about Legislative Day and/or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Frank Huntington, Legislative Day Chair, at:  f[email protected]. We look forward to having you participate in this significant day!
