Contribute to the CALI Journal


The CALI Journal is the official publication of the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI), providing members with news and information about issues affecting our industry. The CALI Journal also offers professional development articles and information about our association’s offerings and benefits.

The CALI Journal Committee is seeking industry news and articles to engage our broad spectrum of readers and promote the PI profession. We invite CALI members, non-members and industry experts to submit article ideas, news briefs, photos and topics of note for future publications. Send your ideas and article proposals to journal@calipi.org.

You may submit your article at any time throughout the year. Please check the article submission deadlines below. Please note, publication dates and deadlines are subject to change.

Author Requirements and Article Formatting Guidelines for Submission
  1. Membership in CALI is NOT required to submit articles to the CALI Journal
  2. Articles must be non-promotional. 
  3. There is no cost to submit articles. 
  4. Preferred article length is approximately 600 words or as appropriate to the subject. News briefs can be shorter and feature articles longer.
  5. Articles must provide the sources of any factual information or quotes.
  6. Electronic submission of articles is required. Article must be in Microsoft Word format.
  7. Include the article title and the author's name and title at the top of the page as they are to appear in the published article.
  8. All organization titles should be written out first in full and then acronyms can be used.
  9. Optional but encouraged: include photos or graphics to complement the article at a resolution of 300 dpi or higher. Include caption(s) for the image(s). Submit these as separate file attachments; do not embed them into the article.
  10. Authors must obtain any copyright permissions that are needed and be able to provide proof of permission upon request. 
  11. CALI reserves the right to approve or deny articles for publication.
  12. CALI reserves the right to edit articles to include clarity, grammar, and space requirements in the article review process.
  13. Articles submitted to the CALI Journal should not be simultaneously submitted for review to any other publications.
  14. Email articles as a Microsoft Word file (no PDFs) and supplemental material, if applicable, to journal@calipi.org.

  • CALI does not guarantee in which issue of the CALI Journal articles will be published.
  • CALI does not guarantee the placement of the article or whether it will be a featured article.

Article Review Process

The CALI Journal Committee reviews articles for publication over a period of several weeks after submission. When the review process is complete, authors are informed whether a submitted article will be accepted for publication. The reviewers may have comments and questions for the authors.

CALI reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to accept or reject submitted content.


By submitting your article content to the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) for publication in the CALI Journal, you give CALI permission to print, reprint and make the article publicly available on the CALI Website and social media. 


Note: The author or content contributor will indemnify, defend and hold harmless CALI from and against any expenses arising from any claims, losses or damages arising from the article, including, but not limited to, third-party claims alleging trademark or copyright infringement.
